Founder Story
Bruce Jamieson’s journey in horticulture began in 1982 at Mount Albert Grammar School, where he first studied horticulture and agriculture. What started as a school subject quickly grew into a lifelong passion. After completing an apprenticeship in a plant nursery, Bruce went on to study horticulture at Massey University, building a strong foundation in plant and soil health.
Over the next four decades, Bruce gained hands-on experience across every level of the industry. He spent time working in Australia with several landscaping companies before starting his own landscape gardening business in Sydney. These years helped shape his practical, results-focused approach to plant care — knowledge that would later become the backbone of his own business.
On returning to New Zealand, Bruce founded New Leaf Horticulture Limited. Seeing a gap in the market, he became the first in the Auckland region to offer a professional spraying service tailored specifically for plant nurseries and garden centres. As word spread and demand grew, the service naturally expanded into residential gardens, allowing Bruce to bring professional-grade care directly into people’s homes.
In 2003, Bruce developed the Aquaticus fertiliser range, born out of years of trial, observation, and real-world use. Today, Aquaticus products are stocked by leading garden centres including Kings Plant Barn and Palmers Garden World, and they form a key part of the treatments used by the business.
In 2023, the business evolved into Garden Boosters, with the service previously known as New Leaf Horticulture Limited now trading under the Garden Boosters name. Backed by over 43 years of experience, Garden Boosters continues Bruce’s commitment to healthier plants, better soils, and practical solutions that deliver real results.
